As a UPS Account Executive and Sales Manager, I had the opportunity to enjoy the involvement of UPS at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Back in 1987, I recommended that UPS develop a program of hospitality at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during May when the activities surrounding the Indianapolis 500 took place each year. The program proved so successful that it was continued and expanded to other UPS Districts through out the USA.

During a trip to Cleveland for an Indy Car Race in the early '90s, I had an opportunity to meet with Jimmy Vassar and Adrian Fernandez, then up and coming race car drivers. I was exposed to the benefits of sponsorship and the excitement of being “in the pits”. In 1996, I took my experiences at UPS and retired early to pursue both my writing aspirations and sponsorship interests. I started New Century Marketing Concepts (www.sponsorship123.com) in order to help sports teams and entertainment companies obtain sponsorship. I also recognized the need for more specialists in the field of sponsorship management at American corporations. I quickly learned that these companies need tools in order to be successful at the sponsorship game.
